2GIL29 GALLERY will participate in the 21st edition of ArtVerona, taking place from October 9 to 11, 2026, at Veronafiere in Verona, Italy. As one of Italy’s leading contemporary art fairs, ArtVerona, under the artistic direction of Laura Lamonea, brings together galleries, artists, collectors, and audiences, creating an international platform for exchange that explores new relationships and discourses surrounding contemporary art.

The theme of ArtVerona 2026 is 《Tra Parentesi》. Meaning “in parentheses” in Italian, this year’s theme takes a step beyond the “dialogue” among members of the art world explored in the previous edition, shifting the focus toward what happens “between” different subjects. Just as parentheses temporarily interrupt the flow of a sentence while creating a space for additional meanings and narratives, ArtVerona explores the relationships formed between works, artists and galleries, and audiences and collectors, as well as the new possibilities that emerge from these encounters. The theme also draws on the concept of “Intermedia,” introduced in the mid-1960s by Dick Higgins, a key Fluxus theorist and artist. It focuses on artistic practices and new meanings that arise “in between,” moving beyond traditionally defined boundaries between different media and disciplines.

ArtVerona 2026 will also feature AWave Zone | Contemporary Art Expression from Korea, a special section dedicated to contemporary Korean art. AWave Zone introduces Korean galleries and artists to the European art scene while fostering cultural exchange and new networks between the artistic landscapes of Korea, Europe, and beyond. 2GIL29 GALLERY will participate in the AWave Zone at ArtVerona 2026, presenting diverse perspectives and contemporary currents in Korean art to local audiences and collectors. The gallery’s presentation will feature works by Hayoung Eum, Jaeyong Kim, Youngkyun Lim, MY Q, Yuyoung Hong, and Theresia. Through its participation in ArtVerona, 2GIL29 GALLERY aims to introduce the artistic practices of its participating artists to the European art scene and create new points of connection with local audiences and collectors. In line with this year’s 《Tra Parentesi》, which focuses on the possibilities that emerge “between” different subjects and fields, 2GIL29 GALLERY hopes to continue building new dialogues between Korean contemporary art and the European art world through its encounters in Verona.

김재용  (B.1973)

Jaeyong Kim (B.1973)

Jaeyong Kim (b.1973) was born in Seoul and is currently based in Seoul and New York. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Ceramics and Sculpture from the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut, and earned his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Ceramics from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, establishing a sculptural foundation centered on ceramics. Building on this background, Kim has gained international recognition for his doughnut-shaped ceramic sculptures. Drawing inspiration primarily from imagery borrowed from mass media, his work seeks to dismantle the prejudice that art is difficult and instead invites public understanding. The universally recognizable form of the doughnut serves as a medium for integrating diverse cultural elements, while continuously transforming and expanding into various forms. The artist’s work reflects the diverse cultural experiences he gained during childhood through travels across the East, the West, and the Middle East. By incorporating tigers and magpies drawn from traditional Eastern folklore, unicorns from Western mythology, and Arabesque patterns from the Middle East, his works symbolize contemporary society in which diverse cultural elements coexist and encourage a wide range of interpretations.

Alongside his artistic practice, Kim has also remained actively engaged in education. He served as an Assistant Professor at Montclair State University in the United States and, since 2015, has been working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Ceramic Arts and Design at Seoul National University of Science and Technology. His works have been exhibited at leading institutions worldwide, including Tang Contemporary Art in Bangkok (2021), Powerlong Museum in Shanghai (2019), Gwangju Museum of Art (2019), Boise Art Museum in the United States (2019), and Lyons Wier Gallery in New York (2019). His works are held in major collections, including the Powerlong Museum in Shanghai, the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City, Michigan, and the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut. Kim will also participate in ART SG 2027 as the sole artist presented by 2GIL29 GALLERY, where his signature doughnut series will be on view.

마이큐  (B.1981)

싱어송라이터이자 프로듀서로 오랜 시간 음악계에서 활약해온 그는 2021년 2GIL29 GALLERY (이길이구갤러리)에서 열린 첫 개인전 〈What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?〉을 계기로 회화의 세계로 본격적인 발걸음을 내디뎠다.

MY Q (B.1981)

MY Q (B.1981) spent his formative years in Hong Kong and studied law at Keele University in the United Kingdom before leaving the program. Growing up in an international environment, he developed a multicultural sensibility and emotional flexibility that continue to inform his practice. After many years as a singer-songwriter and producer, he began working seriously in painting with his first solo exhibition, What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?, at 2GIL29 GALLERY in 2021. His paintings build a distinctive emotional structure in which musical rhythm and shifts in feeling intersect. Through free-flowing lines, bold colors, and carefully composed negative space, MY Q translates the tension between spontaneity and restraint, as well as between popular culture and fine art, into a visual language. His works function as traces of time and emotional rhythm while exploring how art can exist within everyday life.

MY Q has expanded his practice through collaborations with IKEA Korea, Shinsegae Department Store, Art Chosun, and various global brands. He participated in the 2024 exhibition Metamorphosis at the Kim Chong Yung Museum and presented his solo exhibition Traces in Between in 2025. By bringing together the sensibilities of popular culture and the language of contemporary painting, he continues to establish a distinct position within the Korean contemporary art scene.

음하영 (B.1980)

Hayoung Eum (B.1980)

Born in Seoul, Hayoung Eum earned his BFA in Textile Art and Fashion Design from Hongik University, followed by an MFA in Printmaking from the Hongik University. Eum explores new possibilities in contemporary painting through a delicate visual language that unfolds layers of memory and emotion. Drawing upon visual languages and texts generated by the media, as well as fragments of personal experience, he reconstructs them through a fairy-tale-like imagination, creating distinctive pictorial spaces where reality, memory, and imagination intersect. His representative Paradise Series poetically explores private forms of address and memories rooted in his relationships with family. In 2026, his collaboration with AKMU on album cover artwork garnered broad attention, presenting a new visual language that bridges contemporary art and popular music. The overlapping layers of forms and colors on the canvas capture emotional traces that resist easy verbalization, offering viewers a contemplative space into which they can project their own memories and emotions. Eum currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Textile Art and Fashion Design at Hongik University, where he continues to balance teaching with his artistic practice.

Theresia_edited.jpg

Theresia Fauland Neret

Theresia Fauland -Nerat  (B.1966)

주요 전시로는 《LIQUIDS》(ORF Funkhausgalerie Steiermark, Graz, 2015), 《International Sculpture Biennial》(Botanical Garden, Graz, 2017), 《Metamorphosis》(Castle Gallery, Slovenska Bistrica, 2017), 《Das Karussell》(Ankerhalle, Vienna, 2019), 《A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man*Woman》(Photo Gallery of Graz City Hall, Graz, 2022), 《ARTIST DATA BASE》(Künstlerhaus Vereinigung Wien, Parallel Vienna, 2023), 《HEAD_FLIX》(Künstlerhaus Wien, Vienna, 2025) 등이 있으며, 2026년에도 오스트리아와 크로아티아를 중심으로 다수의 전시와 프로젝트에 참여하고 있다.

Theresia Fauland-Nerat (B.1966)

Theresia Fauland-Nerat (B.1966) was born in Styria, Austria. She studied carpentry at Stiendel Artistic Carpentry in Graz until 1984, and subsequently trained professionally in wood restoration under restorer Markus Piffl until 1990. She began working as a freelance restorer in 1991 and received her Master’s degree in Art History from Karl-Franzens University Graz in 2005. From 2000 to 2025, she also taught wood restoration, furniture history, and art history at WIFI Graz.

Her practice centers on sculpture while also encompassing painting, graphic works, and performance. Drawing on her extensive understanding of materials as a restorer and her academic background in art history, Fauland-Nerat connects past and present, as well as traditional craftsmanship and the visual language of contemporary art. Theresia transforms historical fragments and aged materials into furniture sculptures by combining them with new materials, while reconfiguring elements from different periods and functions to turn familiar objects into unfamiliar sculptural forms.

Cast iron is one of the principal materials in her sculptural practice. Through its hardness, rough physicality, and at the same time seemingly organic vitality, she has developed a distinctive formal language. Artist also works with a wide range of materials, including wood, metal, polyester resin, and fiberglass. In Theresia's  graphic works, ink serves as a primary medium, and she uses the term “Liquids” as an overarching concept for a number of these works and series. By placing cast-iron sculptures in dialogue with ink works, the artist creates a relationship in which fluid movement appears to have solidified into three-dimensional form.

Her major exhibitions include 《LIQUIDS》 at ORF Funkhausgalerie Steiermark, Graz (2015); 《International Sculpture Biennial》 at the Botanical Garden, Graz (2017); 《Metamorphosis》 at Castle Gallery, Slovenska Bistrica (2017); 《Das Karussell》 at Ankerhalle, Vienna (2019); 《A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man*Woman》 at the Photo Gallery of Graz City Hall, Graz (2022); 《ARTIST DATA BASE》 at Künstlerhaus Vereinigung Wien, Parallel Vienna (2023); and 《HEAD_FLIX》 at Künstlerhaus Wien, Vienna (2025). In 2026, she continues to participate in numerous exhibitions and projects across Austria and Croatia.

Euyoung Hong (B.1975)

Euyoung Hong (B.1975) explores, through a distinctive aesthetic manifested in diverse installations and three-dimensional works, how space, objects, and human behavior and thought are transformed and reshaped in the process of capitalist urbanization. In her recent works, she has developed her inquiry from a spatial perspective, focusing on the subtle and concealed forces of capitalism—its mechanisms of control—that unify, visualize, and materialize society. Working between London and Seoul, Hong has produced works in various sculptural and installation-based forms and has participated in numerous exhibitions, residencies, and programs both in Korea and internationally. She studied Sculpture at Ewha Womans University, earned an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Iowa, and received a PhD in Art from Goldsmiths, University of London. She is currently active internationally, working between London and Seoul.

Her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions in Korea and abroad, including at the Saatchi Gallery in London, MAC in Ireland, the Seoul Museum of Art, and Tina Keng Gallery in Taiwan. She has received significant recognition for her practice, including being selected as an Artist of the Year. Her works are held in the collections of various institutions and organizations, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea; David Roberts Collection; ISCP (International Studio & Curatorial Program); and Fondazione Pomodoro. She has also participated in a range of residency programs, including ISCP in New York, Nanji Residency in Seoul, and the Park Soo Keun Museum of Art.
