이길이구 갤러리는 오는 6월 26일부터 29일까지 수원컨벤션센터에서 개최되는 『화랑미술제 in 수원 2025』에 부스 A39로 참여합니다. 50여 년의 전통을 지닌 국내 대표 미술 장터 ‘화랑미술제’의 명성을 이어가는 『화랑미술제 in 수원』은, 서울을 벗어난 수도권 지역에서 새롭게 형성된 미술 시장의 가능성을 입증하며 작년 첫 회부터 많은 주목을 받았습니다. 특히, 올해 2회를 맞이하는 이번 행사는 역대 최대 규모의 방문객과 작년 예상을 뛰어넘는 판매 성과로 국내 아트마켓의 회복세를 체감하게 했고, 2025년 상반기 한국 미술시장의 분위기를 가늠할 수 있는 중요한 바로미터가 되고 있습니다.
이길이구 갤러리는 이번 행사에서 민준홍 작가의 솔로 부스를 기획하여 선보입니다. 민준홍은 지난 3월부터 4월까지 이길이구 갤러리에서 열린 개인전 《Nevertheless, the windmill runs》를 통해 10여 년간의 작업을 총망라한 대규모 개인전으로 평단과 컬렉터 양측의 두터운 주목을 받은 바 있으며, 이를 통해 2025년 상반기를 대표하는 작가 중 한 명으로 자리매김했습니다.
이번 화랑미술제 in 수원 2025에서는 민준홍 작가의 작업 세계가 한층 더 컨템포러리한 조형 문법 안에서 변주, 병치, 대칭의 전략을 통해 재해석되는 장면을 마주하게 될 것입니다. 종교적 상징, 도시적 인상, 기억의 잔상들을 동시대적 감각으로 풀어내는 민준홍의 화법은, 조각, 오브제, 회화를 넘나드는 복합적인 장르 탐색을 통해 더욱 심화되어 왔으며, 이번 부스에서는 이러한 작가의 현재적 방법론이 압축적이고도 명확한 형식으로 소개됩니다.

2GIL29 GALLERY is pleased to participate in the Hwarang Art Festival in Suwon 2025, which will take place from June 26 to 29 at the Suwon Convention Center. As an extension of Korea’s leading art market platform with over 50 years of history, this regional edition of the Hwarang Art Festival debuted last year and has already proven its potential in expanding the contemporary art market beyond Seoul into the greater metropolitan area. Now returning for its second edition, the fair is expected to draw a record number of visitors and achieve remarkable sales, signaling continued recovery and renewed momentum in the Korean art scene for the first half of 2025.
For this edition, 2GIL29 GALLERY will present a solo booth dedicated to artist Joonhong Min. Following the success of his large-scale solo exhibition Nevertheless, the windmill runs, held at 2GIL29 GALLERY from March through April, Min drew significant attention from both critics and collectors. The exhibition, which traced over a decade of the artist’s practice, positioned him as one of the most compelling voices in Korean contemporary art today.
At Hwarang Art Festival in Suwon 2025, Min will unveil a new body of work that builds upon his signature language, pushing further into the syntax of contemporary visual art through strategies of variation, juxtaposition, and symmetry. Known for layering religious motifs, urban impressions, and personal memories into an evolving, contemporary iconography, Min's practice traverses sculpture, painting, and object-based installation. His latest works offer a distilled yet complex insight into the artist’s methodology and conceptual trajectory.

민 준 홍 (B.1984)
민준홍 작가는 1984년생으로 서울에서 자라, 서울대학교 회화과 및 동 대학원 을 졸업한 뒤, 런던으로 넘어가 유니버시티 칼리지 런던, 슬레이드 스쿨오브 파인아트에서 석사 학위를 받았습니다. 그의 작품은 2014년 그가 런던으로 이주한 이후, 도시 공간과 건축 구조물에서 영감을 받아 반추상적 형태로 현대사회의 불안을 다루었으며, 물리적 현실과 가상공간의 상호작용을 탐구하는 형태로 발전하였습니다. 이후, 2020년 펜데믹을 통해 소셜미디어, 광고, 알고리즘 등을 기반한 콘텐츠의 무한한 흐름을 통해 현대사회의 소비주의 문화의 모순과 현대사회에서 나타나는 정보 과잉이 불러일으키는 비판적 사고 마비와 피상성을 묘사합니다. 작가는 한국의 영은 미술관,런던의 사치 갤러리 등 국내외 주요기관에서의 전시를 통해 활발한 전시를 이어가고 있습니다.
민준홍 작가는 여러 상을 받으며 그의 예술적 성취를 미술계로 부터 인정받았습니다. 2019년 이탈리아 플로렌스의 컨템포러리 아트에서 "Black and White Call Finalist" 선정, 2017년 런던 필드 프로젝트 스페이스에서 "Lovell Art Prize" 수상, 2016년 UCL "Henry Tonls Prize", "Chadwell Award 2016" 준우승, 아크메 스튜디오 "Batsford Prize 2016 Applied art Winner", 파빌리온 북스 "Cass Art Award 2016" 를 수상하였으며, 2016년 "Ahshurst Emerging Artist Prize 2016 Shortlist"에 명단을 올리고, 2015년 저우드 스페이스 "Jerwood Drawing Prize 2015", 2014년 UCL 슬레이드 스쿨 오브 파인아트 " Leona Carrington Scholarship", 2013년 서울대학교 "Preview Award in Degree Show", 그리고 2012년 뉴욕의 갤러리 신한, 뉴욕 아트 쇼에서 "Selection Award"를 받았습니다. 민준홍 작가는 앞으로도 계속해서 넓은 스펙트럼의 매체를 통해 현대사회 구조와 개인적 경험이 담긴 철학적이고 비판적인 작품을 해나갈 것입니다.
Artist Introduction
Joonhong Min (B.1984)
Joonhong Min was born in 1984 and raised in Seoul. He earned both his BFA and MFA in Painting from Seoul National University, before moving to London to complete his MFA in Fine art Media at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London. Since relocating to London 2014, his artistic practice has been shaped by the influence of urban environments and architectural structures. His early works explored the anxieties of contemporary society through semi-abstract forms, gradually evolving into a more conceptual approach that examines the interaction between physical reality and virtual space. Following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, his work has increasingly reflected on the contradictions of consumerist culture driven by social media, advertising, and algorithm-based content. He visualizes the overwhelming flow of information in contemporary life, portraying its resulting superficially and the erosion of critical thinking. Joonhong Min has exhibited widely in both South Korea and abroad, including at notable institutions such as the Youngeun Museum of contemporary Art in South Korea and Saatchi Gallery in London. His work has received critical recognition and numerous awards from the international art community.
In 2019, he was named a Finalist for the Black and white call at Florence Contemporary Art in Italy. He received the Lovell Art Prize at London's Field Project Space in 2017, and multiple accolades in 2016 including the Henry Tonks Prize and Chadwell Award Runner-up at UCL, the Batsford Prize 2016 in Applied Art from the Acme Studios, and the Cass Art Award from Pavillion Books. He was also shortlisted for the Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize in 2016. Earlier honors include the Jerwood Drawing Prize at Jerwood Space (2015), the Leonara Carrington Scholarship from the Slade School (2014), the Preview Award in the Degree show at Seoul National University (2013), and the Selection Award at the New York Art Show at the Shinhan Gallery in New York.
Joonhong Min continues to expand his practice across a wide range of media, creating philosophically grounded and critically engaged works that interrogate the structures of contemporary society while reflecting deeply personal experiences.
