홍지희 (B. 1986) 는 다양한 커머셜 프로젝트를 통해 시각 언어에 대한 경험을 쌓아온 그는, 자신의 내면과 보다 깊은 조형적 탐구를 실현하기 위해 순수미술 작업에 집중하기 시작했다. 작가는 일상에서 마주하는 사물과 재료, 기억의 흔적들을 수집하고 재구성하며 관계와 연결, 그리고 시간의 축적에 대한 이야기를 펼쳐왔다. 특히 화학 소재, 코스메틱, 유리 조각과 같은 인공적 재료부터 황토, 숯, 흑연, 소금 등 자연의 물성에 이르기까지 다양한 매체를 자유롭게 넘나들며 독창적인 부조 회화 작업을 선보이고 있다. 일상의 부산물과 폐기된 재료들은 작가의 손을 거쳐 섬세하고 빛나는 화면으로 재탄생하며, 소비와 생산의 순환 속에서 사물과 존재의 새로운 가치를 발견하게 한다. 홍지희의 작업은 예술과 삶을 분리하지 않는다. 그에게 창작은 일상 속에서 길어 올린 감정과 생각을 나누는 또 하나의 소통 방식이며, 재료를 탐구하는 과정은 삶의 태도와 시간을 성찰하는 행위이기도 하다. 화면 위에 쌓이는 수많은 레이어는 단순한 물질의 중첩이 아니라 기억과 관계, 성장과 공존의 흔적을 담고 있다. 최근 작업인 〈Layered〉 시리즈에서 작가는 과거와 현재, 의식과 무의식, 디지털과 아날로그처럼 서로 다른 영역들이 맺는 관계에 주목하며, 눈으로 보이는 풍경 너머의 본질적인 세계를 탐구하고 있다.
Having accumulated extensive experience in visual language through various commercial projects, she began to focus on fine art to realize a deeper sculptural exploration of her inner self.The artist has been developing a narrative centered on the relationships, connections, and the accumulation of time by collecting and reconstructing objects, materials, and traces of memory encountered in daily life. In particular, she presents unique relief paintings by freely traversing various media, from artificial materials such as chemical substances, cosmetics, and glass shards, to natural elements like loess, charcoal, graphite, and salt. These daily by-products and discarded materials are reborn through the artist's hands into delicate and radiant canvases, allowing us to discover the new value of objects and existence within the cycle of consumption and production. Jeehui Hong’s work does not separate art from life. To her, creation is another form of communication—sharing emotions and thoughts drawn from daily life—and the process of exploring materials is an act of reflecting on her attitude toward life and the passage of time. The numerous layers built up on the canvas are not merely a superimposition of materials, but contain the traces of memory, relationships, growth, and coexistence. In her recent Layered series, the artist focuses on the relationships formed between different realms—such as the past and present, conscious and unconscious, and digital and analog—exploring a fundamental world beyond the visible landscape.

한국과 프랑스 수교 140주년을 기념하여, 홍지희 작가의 작업에 담긴 한국과 프랑스를 상징하는 청·적·백·흑의 색채가 바카라의 빛 속에서 서서히 번지고 중첩되며 하나의 장면으로 응결됩니다. 빛의 조각으로 이루어진 샹들리에와 크리스털의 형상이 하나로 어우러져, 서로 다른 문화와 감각이 만나 새로운 울림을 만들어내는 공명의 순간을 보여줍니다.
유리라는 매체를 오랫동안 탐구해 온 홍지희 작가에게 빛과 투명성, 색채와 반사, 그리고 빛에 따라 끊임없이 달라지는 물성은 작업을 이루는 중요한 요소입니다. 작가는 유리가 지닌 투명성과 빛의 움직임을 통해 색과 공간의 관계를 탐구해 왔으며, 이러한 작업의 연장선에서 프랑스의 대표적인 럭셔리 브랜드 바카라(Baccarat)가 지닌 크리스털의 빛과 조형성에 주목합니다.
바카라는 1764년 루이 15세의 공식 승인을 받아 설립되어 260년이 넘는 역사와 정교한 장인정신을 이어오며, 크리스털을 통해 빛의 아름다움을 구현해 온 프랑스의 대표적인 브랜드입니다. 섬세한 수공예와 독보적인 크리스털 커팅 기술을 바탕으로 만들어지는 바카라의 작품은 빛을 머금고, 반사하고, 분산시키며 공간 안에서 끊임없이 변화하는 시각적 경험을 만들어냅니다. 이러한 바카라의 크리스털은 프랑스의 예술적 전통과 장인정신을 넘어, 빛을 하나의 조형 언어로 확장해 온 프랑스의 미적 감각을 상징하며, 이는 홍지희 작가가 오랫동안 유리를 통해 탐구해 온 조형적 관심과도 맞닿아 있습니다.
홍지희 작가가 바라보는 유리의 세계와 바카라가 구현해 온 크리스털의 세계는 서로 다른 매체와 문화적 배경에서 출발하지만, 빛과 색, 투명성과 반사라는 공통의 언어를 통해 자연스럽게 마주합니다. 한국과 프랑스를 상징하는 청·적·백·흑의 색채는 크리스털의 빛과 만나 새로운 깊이와 온도를 만들어내고, 서로 다른 문화적 배경에서 비롯된 두 개의 시각 언어는 하나의 공간 안에서 빛과 색, 형태의 새로운 조화를 만들어냅니다.
이를 통해 한국과 프랑스의 오랜 문화적 교류와 우호를 하나의 시각적 장면으로 담아내며, 전통과 동시대적 감각, 장인정신과 예술적 실천이 만나는 공명의 순간을 제안합니다.
To commemorate the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France, the blue, red, white, and black hues that symbolize the two countries in Jeehui Hong’s work gradually diffuse and overlap within Baccarat’s luminous world, coalescing into a single scene. The chandelier, composed of fragments of light, and the sculptural forms of crystal come together as one, evoking a moment of resonance in which different cultures and sensibilities meet.
For Jeehui Hong, who has long explored glass as an artistic medium, light and transparency, color and reflection, and the ever-changing qualities of glass in response to light are fundamental elements of her practice. Through the transparency of glass and the movement of light, she has explored the relationship between color and space. Extending this inquiry, she turns her attention to the luminosity and sculptural qualities of crystal embodied by Baccarat, one of France’s leading luxury maisons.
Founded in 1764 with the official approval of King Louis XV, Baccarat has carried forward more than 260 years of history and exceptional craftsmanship, expressing the beauty of light through crystal. Its works, created through meticulous craftsmanship and distinctive crystal-cutting techniques, capture, reflect, and refract light, creating an ever-changing visual experience within space. Beyond France’s artistic heritage and tradition of craftsmanship, Baccarat crystal embodies a distinctly French aesthetic in which light itself becomes a sculptural language—an aesthetic that resonates with the formal concerns Jeehui Hong has long explored through her work with glass.
The world of glass explored by Jeehui Hong and the world of crystal embodied by Baccarat emerge from different media and cultural backgrounds, yet naturally converge through a shared language of light and color, transparency and reflection. The blue, red, white, and black hues associated with Korea and France encounter the radiance of crystal, creating new depths and tonalities. Two visual languages rooted in different cultural contexts come together within a single space, generating a new harmony of light, color, and form.
Through this visual encounter, the enduring cultural exchange and friendship between Korea and France are brought into focus as a singular visual scene, offering a moment of resonance where tradition and contemporary sensibility, craftsmanship and artistic practice meet.
