2GIL29 GALLERY presents a solo exhibition of Charlie Hahn as the first exhibition of the year. Charlie Hahn applies his strong curiosity to study, arts and even to people, and works come and goes from Korea to the United States. He is currently based in Seoul and an assistant professor in video animation department at Keimyung University. Charlie Hahn is a Korean-American. As a legal American, culturally Korean, his growth crossing two different countries made his life profound as an artist. Through the works of photography, media, and installation, he handled the issues of identity, space, and culture. In his spatial work, he utilizes the method of optical illusion effect to change the image of the object according to the path of a viewer. As in his early video works, there is one object, but it expands to the story of nature and culture which change in ways of seeing. In the solo exhibition at 2GIL29 GALLERY, you will meet his recent drawings. His graphical drawings using a method of taping, the surface of actual space is deconstructed and constructed, and the shapes are assembled and disassembled according to the viewpoint of the viewers. 2GIL29 GALLERY <이길이구 갤러리>는 2018년 첫 전시로 1월 17일부터 26일까지 미디어 아티스트 찰리한의 'Line+beep2'를 개최한다. 뉴욕과 서울을 오가며 작품활동을 하고있는 그는 왕성한 호기심을 학문, 예술, 창작활동 뿐 아니라 사람에게도 적용한다. 2005년부터 2008년까지 연세대학교 미디어아트 연구소의 연구원으로 활동 했으며, '광주 문화중심도시' 리서치 프로젝트를 비롯한 정부 주관 문화프로젝트에 참여하였다. 또한 Maryland Institute College of Art에서 사진으로 학사, 디지털 예술로 석사, Towson University에서 시각예술로 석사학위를 받았다. Maryland Institute College of Art의 교수로 재직했으며 현재는 계명대학교 Artech College 영상애니메이션과 조교수로 재직 중이다. 찰리한은 재미교포 1.5세대이다. 법적 미국인, 문화적 한국인으로서 서로 다른 국가를 오갔던 성장 과정이 작가로서의 삶을 풍성하게 해주었다고 말한다. 미디어아트, 사진, 영상, 설치 등 다양한 작업들을 통해 정체성, 공간성, 문화성에 대한 이슈를 다뤄온 작가는 공간 작업에서 착시 효과를 이용해 동선에 따라 대상의 이미지가 바뀌어 보이게 하는 방식을 사용한다. 초기 영상 작업에서와 마찬가지로 대상은 하나지만, 시각에 따라 변화되는 본질과 문화권에 대해 이야기로 확장 중이다. 이길이구 갤러리 전시에서는 최근의 드로잉 작업 또한 엿 볼 수 있다. 테이핑을 이용한 도형 드로잉 작업은 실제 공간의 표면을 선과 면으로 해체, 구축하고 사람들의 시점에 따라 도형 또한 완성되고 해체되는 흥미로운 작업들이다.
