2GIL29 GALLERY is pleased to present a solo exhibition «Les Pauvres Gens» by YOU Hyeonkyeong, who focused on her various internal emotions and exploring on relationship matters from a humanistic perspective. The exhibition will take place from June 17to to July 10th. The meaning of «Les Pauvres Gens» in this exhibition is not a needy person. In order to explain the concept of «Les Pauvres Gens», a diverse layer of approach is necessary. YOU Hyeonkyeong  contemplates how the most independent individual is shaped through values such as freedom, peace, human dignity, purity, and innocence, rather than relying on specific personalities, cultures, or perspectives. These unspoken words of the artist are conveyed to the viewers through her works. Through this exhibition, we can find a deeper meaning of the complex inner world of «Les Pauvres Gens» and contemplate their independence, freedom, and interaction with structures. We eagerly anticipate the precious moments of sharing and connecting with artist within You’s new artistic experiences. Artist Biography
Hyeonkyeong You(B. 1985), after graduating from Seoul National University for both bachelor’s and master’s degree, was selected as a resident artist in Schloss Plüschow, Germany (2011), Rote Fabrik, Switzerland (2014), and Doosan residency in New York (2016). As one of the 20 2030 Power Leaders selected by Forbes Korea in 2022 and an award winner of the 8th Jonggeun dang Art award in 2019, Hyeonkyeong You is currently living in Berlin building her career. By looking at her artworks, one could tell that her perspective does not end by looking at the object. She especially focuses on the complicated emotions that occur while facing the models and quickly depicts the surroundings, temperature of the room, and outlook of the relationship with her signature brushstrokes. Through this, the artist's fundamental and pure energy was shown in the work by maximizing visual tremor, emotional immersion, and thought, which formed an art world that only Hyeonkyeong You had. Art critic, E Jung Ban described recent works as unfinished-looking brushstrokes, a bold large portion of blank on the canvas, scenes with a lack of stories, and first impressions reminding oriental paintings by large brush works, long titles does not connect to the piece, or exhibition titles are the differences from other typical fine arts. The uniqueness of her artworks is evolving overtime, and is creating her own world of art. 

유현경 , 가난한 사람

이길이구 갤러리는 6월 17일부터 7월 10일까지 자신 내부의 다양하게 형성되는 감정들과 인문학적 관점에서 관계의 문제에 대해서 탐구해 온 유현경 작가의 개인전 «가난한 사람»을 개최한다. 가난의 의미는 궁핍함이 아니다. 이번 전시는  전시 타이틀을 설명하기 위해서는 다양한 층위의 접근이 필요하고 작가는 특정한 성격이나 문화, 관점에 의존하는 것보다 자아의 자유, 인간의 존엄성, 순수, 평화와 같은 가치들을 통해 가장 독립적인 사람이 어떻게 되는지 고민하는 것이다. 이러한 전하지 못한 작가의 말들은 작품으로 표현되어 관객들에게 이번 전시를 통해 우리는 ‘가난한 사람’의 복잡한 내면세계와 그들의 독립성, 자유로움, 그리고 구조와의 상호작용에 대해 더 깊이 생각해 볼 수 있다.

유현경 작가의 작품에서 보이는 표현은 감정에 휘둘리지 않고 솔직한 필법으로 캔버스에 옮겨내고 있다. 작가에게 어떤 대상을 그리거나 인물을 그리는 것은 중요치 않다. 그 대상이나 인물에서 나타나는 특수성, 그 삶 속에 진솔하게 들어가 더 내밀한 부분의 이야기를 전하고자 한다. 그래서 그 대상의 묘사가 거의 생략되어 추상화처럼 보여진다. 그렇다고 완성되지 않은 것이 아니다. 작가는 누구보다 깊고 치밀하게 대상을 관찰하고 감각하며 작품에 임한다. 눈에 보이지 않지만 느껴지는 감각들을 한순간 빠르게 포착하고 붓질로서 기록하여 직감적이고 생동감이 넘치는 작품이 탄생되는 것이다.

이번 전시에서 유현경 작가의 작품들은 기존의 작품들보다 더욱 솔직하고 거침없으며 견고한 구성력으로 화면을 채우는 회화 작품들로 이루어진다. 대범하면서도 섬세한 그의 작품들에서 그의 오랜 고민과 신념, 그리고 숙련된 조형적 시도가 겸비 된 것을 볼 수 있다. 그는 이번 작업들을 통해 삶에 대한 통찰과 그것에 대한 감각적 확장 그리고 새로운 인식의 세계를 경험하게 할 것이다. 수많은 대상과의 관계 속에서 그만의 새로운 방식으로 접점을 만들어내는 유현경 작가의 깊은 예술 세계를 이번 전시에서 경험하기를 바라고 유현경 작가가 들려주는 새로운 예술적 경험을 관객들과 함께 교감하는 소중한 순간을 이길이구 갤러리에서 만끽하기를 기대한다.
