Memory, Formed | 기억의 형상 Ⅱ
2GIL29 GALLERY 이길이구 갤러리는 오는 9 월 2 일부터 13 일까지 그룹전 《Memory, Formed II | 기억의 형상 II》를 개최합니다. 이번 전시는 지난 8 월까지 이어진 1 부 전시의 연장선에서, ‘기억’이라는 추상적 개념을 보다 입체적이고 물질적인 차원으로 확장하며, 동시대 시각언어가 기억을 어떻게 감각화하고 재구성하는지를 탐구합니다.
참여하는 10명의 작가들은 회화, 조각, 설치, 오브제, 텍스트 등 서로 다른 매체를 통해, 시간과 장소, 개인과 집단, 감정과 신체가 교차하는 기억의 다층 구조를 풀어냅니다. 이들의 작업은 과거를 단순히 회상하는 행위를 넘어, 지금-여기에서 여전히 작동하고 변화하는 기억의 역동성을 시각적으로 드러냅니다.
특히 이번 전시는 Kiaf SEOUL 2025 에 참여하는 작가들을 중심으로 구성되어, 아트페어에서 단편적으로 만날 수 있는 작품들을 갤러리라는 물리적 공간 안에서 더 깊은 내러티브와 풍부한 맥락 속에 배치합니다. 이를 통해 관람객은 작품의 표면을 넘어, 그 배경과 과정, 그리고 작가의 고유한 조형 언어를 몰입감 있게 경험할 수 있습니다.
2GIL29 GALLERY is pleased to present the group exhibition Memory, Formed II, on view from September 2 to 13, 2025.
As a continuation of the first part of the exhibition held through August, Memory, Formed II expands the theme of memory into more physical and dimensional forms. The exhibition explores how contemporary visual language interprets and reconstructs memory—shifting it from a personal, abstract concept into something tangible and sensorial.
The show features ten artists, including Do Ho Suh, working across painting, sculpture, installation, object, and text. Through their varied approaches, the artists examine the layered structure of memory, where time and place, personal and collective experience, emotion and the body intersect. Rather than simply recalling the past, the works reveal memory as a dynamic and evolving presence—something that continues to shape our perception of the present.
Importantly, the exhibition brings together artists participating in Kiaf SEOUL 2025, offering audiences an opportunity to engage with their work in greater depth than what is typically possible within the context of an art fair. Presented in the focused environment of the gallery, the works are placed within a broader narrative, allowing viewers to experience not only the surface of each piece but also the ideas, processes, and unique artistic languages behind them.

강석영 Sukyoung Kang (b. 1949)
한국의 1세대 도예가로, 홍익대와 파리 국립기술공예학교에서 도예를 전공하였다. 이후, 30년간 이화여대에서 학장 및 도예연구소장으로 지내며 후학을 양성하였다. 그는 ‘슬립 캐스팅’ 기법을 통해 완벽한 형태를 인위적으로 변형시키는 추상 도자 작업으로, ‘한국적 백색’과 ‘질감의 문화’를 현대적으로 해석한 도예거장으로 평가받는다. 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관, 브루클린 뮤지엄, 로열 알버트 뮤지엄 등에 소장되었으며, 서울공예박물관 파사드 세라믹 작업 등으로 대중성과 예술성을 동시에 인정받았다. 2022년 이길이구 갤러리 개인전에서는 조선 백자의 미감을 현대적 설치작품으로 풀어내며 한국 현대 도예의 방향성을 제시했다.
Sukyoung Kang (b. 1949)
A first-generation Korean ceramic artist, Sukyoung Kang received both his BFA and MFA in Ceramics from Hongik University, and continued his studies in Paris at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués. He served over 30 years at Ewha Womans University as Dean and Director of the Ceramic Research Institute. Known for his abstract slip-cast works that challenge ideal forms, he reinterprets “Korean whiteness” and “textural culture” for the contemporary era. His works are in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Korea), Brooklyn Museum, and Royal Albert Memorial Museum, among others. In 2022, he presented a solo exhibition at 2GIL29 GALLERY, offering a modern take on Joseon white porcelain
강준영 Junyoung Kang (b. 1979)
홍익대 도예학과 학사와 석사를 졸업하였으며, 도자, 페인팅, 영상 등 다양한 매체를 통해 자전적 감정과 이야기를 조형적으로 풀어내는 작가이다. 2006년 경기세계도자비엔날레 대상 수상을 시작으로 국내외에서 활발히 활동해왔으며, 아트 센트럴 홍콩 등 국제 아트페어에서도 주목을 받았다. 그래피티와 스트리트 문화에서 영향을 받은 그래픽적 요소와 강렬한 색감은 그의 도자 페인팅 오브제 작업의 주요 특징이다. 그의 작품은 개인적 경험에서 출발하며, 사회적 메시지와 인류애로 확장되어, “Pray for You”, “I Love You More Than My Life” 등 직접적인 언어로 보편적인 감정과 희망의 메시지를 전한다. 현재 그의 작품은 국회의사당, 한국마사회, 한향림 현대도자미술관 등에 소장되어 있다.
Junyoung Kang ( b. 1979)
Junyoung Kang holds both BFA and MFA degrees in Ceramics from Hongik University. Through various media including ceramics, painting, and video, his work explores autobiographical emotions and narratives in sculptural form. Since winning the Grand Prize at the 2006 Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale, he has been active in both domestic and international scenes, attracting attention at global art fairs such as Art Central Hong Kong. Main Characteristics of his ceramic-painted objects that inspired by street culture and gravity. It based on personal experience and expands to social message, and universal emotions to conveys direct messages and universal emotion such as "Pray for you" and "I Love You More Than My Life". His works are in collections including the National Assembly of Korea and the Han Hyang Lim Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art.

김범은 1963년생으로 서울대학교 회화과를 졸업하고, 미국 UCLA에서 미술 석사 학위를 취득했습니다. 그는 한국 개념미술의 대표 작가로, 언어와 규칙, 반복, 드로잉, 오브제 등을 통해 일상 속 사물과 경험을 철학적으로 전환하는 작업을 지속해왔습니다.김범의 작품은 감각적 재현보다는 사유의 구조를 드러내는 방식으로 기억을 다룹니다. 반복되는 언어나 물건, 시스템은 기억이 습관과 일상, 무의식 속에서 어떻게 생성되고 작동하는지를 보여주는 장치로 기능합니다.그의 작품은 테이트 모던, 뉴욕 현대미술관(MoMA), 국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관 등 다수의 주요 기관에 소장되어 있으며, 일민미술상(2001), 광주비엔날레 대상(2004)을 수상한 바 있습니다.
Beom Kim (b. 1963)
Beom Kim, born in 1963, is a leading figure in Korean conceptual art. He received his BFA in Painting from Seoul National University and his MFA from UCLA. Kim’s work is characterized by its use of language, repetition, and systems of logic to challenge conventional distinctions between art and life, thought and action.Rather than representing memory through imagery, Kim exposes its invisible structures—its habits, its rhythms, and its tendency to fragment or fade. Through drawings, objects, installations, and texts, he reveals the cognitive and perceptual frames through which memory takes form. His works are held in major international collections including Tate Modern, MoMA, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. He is a recipient of the Ilmin Art Prize (2001) and the Gwangju Biennale Prize (2004).
김용호 Yongho Kim (b. 1956)
상업사진과 예술사진의 경계를 넘나들며 일상의 기억과 초현실적 이미지를 결합한 실험적 작업으로 대중과 소통해온 사진가이다. 사진, 영상, 방송, 패션, 라이프스타일 등 다양한 분야에서 독창적으로 프로젝트를 이끌어 시대와 문화를 재조명 해왔으며, 광고사진을 전시 및 판매로 연결시킨 유일무이한 작가로 평가받는다. 그의 작업은 사진부터 영상미디어까지 확장되어,’포토랭귀지’라는 자신만의 시각언어를 구축했다. 2023년에는 영화 감독 데뷔작 de Vermis Seoulis 로 작업의 폭을 넓혔다. 그는 구찌 두 개의 이야기 전시를 통해 김수자, 박찬욱, 백남준, 조성진, 한국 문화예술 거장 4인을 새로운 시선으로 담아냈다. 그는 한국패션사진가협회 회장을 역임했으며, VOGUE, BAZZAR 등과 협업한 수많은 패션사진 외에도 ‘피안(연)’, ‘신여성’, 한국문화예술명인전’ 등 한국 전통과 인물의 미를 조명한 예술사진으로도 주목받는다. 또한 현대카드, 현대차, LG전자 등과의 기업 이미지 프로젝트를 통해 글로벌 한국 브랜드의 문화적 가치를 시각적을 구현해왔다.
Yongho Kim (b. 1956)
Photographer Yongho Kim bridges commercial and fine art photography, blending everyday moments with surreal visual narratives. A pioneer in transforming advertising photography into contemporary art, he developed a unique visual language he calls “Photolanguage.” His work spans photography, video, and film—including his 2023 directorial debut de Vermis Seoulis. He has collaborated with Gucci, Hyundai, LG, and led major editorial projects for VOGUE, BAZAAR, and others. Besides all this fashion projects, His work, Pian(Lotus), Modern Girl, Korea Mastery of Cultural Art, and etc.. were highlighted as an Artistic photography of Korean tradition and beauty of human.

마이큐 MY Q (b. 1981)
어린 시절 홍콩에서 자라, 다양한 문화적 감수성을 체득한 싱어송라이터이자 프로듀서이며, 2021년 이길이구 갤러리 개인전 What are you doing the rest of your life? 를 통해 미술계에 데뷔했다. 그는 작업에 리듬감 있는 선, 대담한 색채, 즉흥성과 반복적인 붓질을 통해 감정과 심리를 시각화하며 음악과 회화가 자연스럽게 공 존하는 화면을 만들어낸다. 이후, 2023년 개인전 Soft Slam, 2024 김종영미술관 기획전 어떤변화: Metamorphosis 에 참여하며 예술적 스펙트럼을 확장해왔다. 이케아 코리아와의 협업 프로젝트에서는 작업과 휴식이 공존하는 예술적 공간을 제안해 주목받았으며, 2025년 이길이구 갤러리에서의 개인전을 앞두고 있다.
MY Q (b. 1981)
MY Q, a Singer-songwriter and producer, gained cultural sensibility to diversity while spent his childhood in Hong Kong. He began his career as an artist with a solo exhibition <<What are you doing the rest of your life?>> at 2GIL29 GALLERY in 2021. His painting portrays emotional and psychological states into visual form, using rhythmic lines, vivid odors, and spontaneous brushwork that merge music and art. Later on, He contributed to Soft Slam (2023) at 2GIL29 GALLERY and Metamorphosis (2024) at the Kim Chongyoung Museum.These exhibition expand his artistic spectrum.He also collaborated with IKEA Korea, creating a space where art and relaxation coexist. MY Q's Solo exhibition is scheduled for October 2025 at 2GIL29 Gallery.

서도호는 1962년생으로 서울대학교 동양화과를 졸업한 후, 미국 로드아일랜드디자인학교(RISD)와 예일대학교에서 조소를 전공했습니다. 그는 개인과 집단, 공간과 정체성, 기억과 이주의 문제를 천과 건축 구조물, 영상, 드로잉 등 다양한 매체로 풀어내며 세계적인 주목을 받아왔습니다.서도호의 대표작인 투명한 패브릭으로 만든 건축물 연작은, 유년 시절의 집과 몸의 기억을 반복적으로 재현함으로써, 장소성과 기억의 관계를 형상화합니다. 그의 작업은 개인의 정체성이 기억의 층위에서 어떻게 형성되고, 공간을 통해 어떻게 매개되는지를 시각적으로 탐색합니다.작품은 테이트 모던, 뉴욕 현대미술관, 구겐하임, 퐁피두센터, 리움, 국립현대미술관 등 세계 유수 미술관에 소장되어 있으며, 현재도 런던과 서울을 중심으로 활발한 작업을 이어가고 있습니다.
Doho Suh (b. 1962)
Doho Suh, born in 1962, is an internationally acclaimed artist whose work addresses issues of identity, memory, and migration through architectural forms and textile-based installations. He studied traditional painting at Seoul National University and later earned degrees in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design and Yale University.Best known for his translucent fabric structures that replicate his childhood home, corridors, and domestic spaces, Suh transforms private memory into shared spatial experience. His works function as both memorials and metaphysical inquiries, asking how memory inhabits architecture and how the self is shaped by place.His work is in the permanent collections of Tate Modern, MoMA, Centre Pompidou, Guggenheim Museum, Leeum Museum of Art, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. Based between London and Seoul, Suh continues to explore the emotional architecture of belonging and displacement.
음하영 Hayoung Eum (b. 1980)
홍익대학교에서 섬유미술 패션디자인학과 학사, 판화과 석사를 취득하였다. 그는 이후, 패션 일러스트레이션과 회화의 경계를 넘나드는 현대미술 작가로 활동 중이다. 2006년 보그 코리아를 시작으로, 영국 레모네이드 에이전시 소속 최초의 한국인 아티스트로 국제 프로젝트에도 참여하며 글로벌 활동을 이어왔다. 그의 작업은 미디어가 생성한 이미지와 텍스트를 동화적 상상력으로 재해석, 감정과 위로를 전달하는 섬세한 판타지 세계를 구축한다. 일상의 감각과 경험을 바탕으로 현실과 상상의 경계를 허무는 작품세계를 만들어가고 있다. 작품은 국내외 기관 및 개인 컬렉션에 소장되어 있으며, 꾸준한 전시와 프로젝트를 통해 예술계에 활발히 참여하고 있다. 현재는 홍익대학교 초빙교수로 후학양성에도 힘쓰고 있다.
Hayoung Eum (b. 1980)
Hayoung Eum earned his BFA in Textile Art and Fashion Design and MFA in Printmaking from Hongik University. Working between painting and fashion illustration, he gained early recognition through Vogue Korea and became the first Korean artist represented by the UK’s Lemonade Agency. His delicate, imaginative works reinterpret media images and texts, blurring reality and fantasy. He remains active through exhibitions and collaborations, and currently teaches at Hongik University as an adjunct professor.

콰야 Qwaya (b. 1991)
‘고요한 밤의 탐구’를 상징하는 이름처럼, 명상적 시선과 강렬한 색채로 일상과 현실, 상상을 교차시키는 회화 작업을 선보이는 한국 작가이다. 상명대학교에서 패션 및 디자인을 전공한 후, 잔나비 2집 앨범 커버 작업 (2019)으로 대중에 이름을 알렸고, 이후 이길이구 갤러리에서 개인전을 개최하며 본격적으로 미술계에 진입했다. 그는상업예술과순수예술경계를넘나들며,음반아트워크,대기업협업,전시기획등폭넓은활동을이어가고 있으며, 특히 2022년에는 가수 최백호와의 공동 전시를 통해 장르 간 용합을 시도한다. 무명의 시기를 지나 침묵과 사유, 창작을 기반으로 자신만의 조형 세계를 다져가고 있는 작가로 앞으로의 행보가 더욱 기대된다.
Qwaya (b. 1991)
Qwaya, meaning “a search through the silent night,” creates paintings that interweave everyday life, imagination, and silence. After studying Fashion and Design at Sangmyung University, he gained attention for album artwork for band Jannabi in 2019, and debuted with a solo exhibition at 2GIL29 GA LLERY. Moving between fine and commercial art, he has collaborated on exhibitions and branding projects. His work explores introspection, memory, and gentle transformation through vivid colors and meditative imagery.
최인선 Insun Choi (b. 1964)
홍익대학교 회화과 학사와 석사를 졸업 후, 미국 뉴욕주립대를 졸업하였다. 그는 홍익대 회화과 교수로 재직중이다. 그는 중앙미술대전 대상, 대한민국 미술 대전 우수상, 오늘의 젊은 에술가상, 하종현 미술상 등 다수의 주요 미술상을 수상하며 젊은 시절부터 실력을 인정받은 대표적인 중견 작가이다. 그는 형상과 추상, 물성과 색채를 자유롭게 넘나들며 독자적인 조형언어를 구축해왔으며, 국내외 유수의 기관에서 전시와 작품 소장을 이어오고 있다. 2018년부터는 ‘인카네이션 문화예술재단’을 설립해 젊은 예술가들을 위한 장학사업과 지원활동을 펼치며 예술의 사회적 가치를 실천하고 있다. 그는 지속적인 작업 활동과 나눔의 실천 통해 한국 현대미술의 중심축으로 자리 잡고 있다.
Insun Choi (b. 1964)
Insun Choi received his BFA and MFA in Painting from Hongik University and studied at the State University of New York. And he is currently a professor at Hongik University. Choi is a prominent mid aged artist who has been recognized his artistic talant since his early years, receiving numerous major art award such as Grand Prize at The Fifteenth Joong Ang Fine Arts Prize,Excellence Prize at The Thirteenth Grand art Exhibition of Korea, Today's Young Artist Award at the Minister's Award, The Second Ha Chonghyun Art Award, and etc..His award-winning work explores the boundaries between form and abstraction, material and color. Actively exhibited and collected both in Korea and abroad, he also runs the Incarnation Foundation for Arts and Culture, supporting emerging artists and promoting the social role of art.

홍유영 Euyoung Hong (b. 1975)
도시 공간의 물질성과 구조를 탐구하며, 자본주의 도시화 속에서 사라지는 순간과 공간을 입체 설치 형식으로 시각화 하는 작가이다. 사물과 공간에 축적된 시간과 사회적 관계를 조형언어로 풀어내며, 도시와 자본, 시각예술의 교차점을 지속적으로 탐색하고 있다. 이화여대 조소 전공,미국 아이오와대 조소 석사, 런던 골드스미스대 미술학 박사 학위 취득하였으며, 런던과 서울을 오가며 국제적으로 활동 중이다. 사치 갤러리(런던), MAC(아일랜드), 서울시립미술관, 티나켕 갤러리 (타이완) 등 다수의 국내외 전시에 참여했고, 올해의 작가 등으로 선정되어 주목을 받았다. 뉴욕 ISCP, 서울 난지, 박수근미술관 등 다양한 레지던시 및 국립현대미술관, 데이비드 로버츠 컬렉션, ISCP, 포모도로 재단에서 작품을 소장 중이다.
Euyoung Hong (b. 1975)
Euyoung Hong investigates urban space, memory, and materiality through sculptural installations. Her practice visualizes disappearing places and social relationships shaped by urbanization. She holds degrees from Ewha Womans University, University of Iowa, and Goldsmiths, University of London. Her works have been exhibited internationally at venues such as Saatchi Gallery, Seoul Museum of Art, and Tina Keng Gallery, and are in collections including MMCA Korea and the David Roberts Art Foundation. She has participated in residencies at ISCP, Nanji Studio, and the Park Soo Keun Art Museum.
