PIECES OF JOY
2GIL29 GALLERY is pleased to announce 'PIECES OF JOY' a solo exhibition of Mogu Takahashi (b.1984), a Tokyo-based artist, from September 15th to November 15th, 2018. She has had solo exhibitions in Japan, Paris, Barcelona, and Gothenburg. Mogu studied architecture at university and didn’t receive any traditional art education. She has been actively exhibiting works on the world stage in New York, London, Brussels, Melbourne and more. In Seoul, it is the first exhibition at 2GIL29 GALLERY. The collaboration with ‘Fine Little Day’ led by Elisabeth Dunker, praised by Times and Martha Stewart, has been loved by many audiences and it made Mogu a global star-artist. Other collaborations such as Ne-net of Japan and global corporations like Gucci and Memo Paris made her works familiar to Koreans as well. Her works that are not engaged in the formal language of art and not trapped in any frame make us feel such free energy. Beginning with observing objects from the perspective of a child, and this way of working transform things around us into the loveliest objects in a second.Her works have magical features that make the audience smilein no time and warm our hearts.The every-day objects such as plates, vases, and images of humorously personified animals like dogs, cats, birds, and snakes might seem to have an ordinary point of view on art, but with her unique interpretation presents her pure and innocent dream to modern people. Her free-flowing and untamed brush strokes are fueled with vivid lively colors, and the aesthetics expressed in her works make Mogu Takahashi irreplaceable.
Recently,Mogu, who had a workshop in Stockholm, which the Sweden government specially invited her, believes communication with the public is of the utmost importance. She constantly uploads daily drawings on her Social Network Service and says that an act of drawing is like as if she is writing for the loved ones. It is the will of the artist who hopes to share the beauty of life, to empathize with the art of delight way of life, and to share the work with the public. Her paintings that are like the dazzling green forest and the sunshine, as well as the objects that are made by Mogu, will be organized with various forms of art at 2GIL29 GALLERY. The artist lives and works in Tokyo.

모구 다카하시
이길이구 갤러리에서는 2018년 9월 15일부터 11월 15일까지 도쿄 출신의 예술가 모구 다카하시(1984년생)의 초대전 'PiECEC OF JOY' 를 개최한다. 일본, 파리, 바르셀로나, 고텐부르크 등에서 개인전을 가진 바 있다. 모구는 대학에서는 건축학을 전공하고 제도권 안에서 미술교육을 받은 적은 없다. 꾸준히 뉴욕, 도쿄, 런던, 브뤼셀, 멜버른 등등 세계 무대를 기점으로 아주 활발하게 작품 전시를 하고 있다. 서울에서는 첫 국내 내한 전시인 이길이구 갤러리에서의 단독 초대전이다. 미국시사 주간지 타임과 마사 스튜어트가 가장 영감을 주는 브랜드라고 극찬한 엘리사베트 둥케르가 이끌고 있는 스웨덴의 북유럽 라이프 스타일 브랜드 'Fine Little Day' 와의 협업으로 그녀의 작품은 많은 대중들에게 사랑을 받고 세계적인 스타예술가의 반열에 올랐다. 일본의 Ne-Net 와의 공동 작업 그리고 글로벌 기업 구찌, 메모 파리스와 같은 기업 브랜드와의 콜라보레이션을 통해 한국인들에게도 친숙하다. 작가의 작품은 전통적이 미술언어에 구애받지 않고 어떠한 틀에도 갇히지 않은 자유로운 에너지를 느끼게 한다. 어린아이의 시각으로 바라보는 사물에 대한 관찰에서 시작된 작업 방식은 모든 주변의 사물들을 한순간에 가장 사랑스러운 것으로 변모하게 만든다. 어느새 보는이의 얼굴에 미소를 짓게 만들고 마음을 따뜻하게 해주는 마법 같은특징을 지니고 있는 작품이다. 접시, 꽃병 등 흔히 접하는 일상용품들에서부터 강아지, 고양이, 새, 뱀 등 동물들의 의인화된 유머러스한 이미지들은 자칫 평범해 보일 수 있는 예술의 견해를 가진 듯 하지만 그녀만의 조형적 재해석을 통해 현대인들에게는 동심의 순수한 꿈을 선물한다.
빛나고 길들여지지 않은 자유롭게 흐르는섬세한 붓질감과 생동감 넘치는 세련된 색채들에 힘입어 누구도 흉내 낼 수 없는 모구 다카하시만의 독창적인 미학으로 표현되어진다.최근에도 스웨덴 정부가 특별 초대 한 스톡홀름에서 워크샵을 가진 바 있는 작가 모구다카하시는 대중과의 소통을 제일 중요하게 생각한다. 매일매일 본인의 SNS 계정에 꾸준히 그림을 일기처럼 그려나가는 그녀는 그리는 행위는 사랑하는 사람을 향한 독백이라고 말한다. 특정한 사람을 지칭하는 것이 아닌 대중을 향한 삶의 아름다움을, 인간이 전하는 밝은 삶의 방식을 예술로 공감하고 누구나 본인의 작품을 가깝게 나누길 희망하는 작가의 의지인 것이다. 햇빛 눈부신 녹색 숲 같은 그녀의 작품들을은 회화뿐만 아니라 손으로 빚은 오브제를 포함해 이길이구갤러리에서 다양한 장르들로 구성되어 진다. 작가는 현재 도쿄에 거주하며 왕성하게 작품 활동을 하고 있다.
