GALLERIES ART FAIR 2023
2GIL29 Gallery will participate in the 2022 Galleries Art Fair, which will be held from March 17th to 20th. (booth number C09) The Galleries Art Fair which marks its 40th anniversary this year will be held at the Seoul Trade Exhibition and Convention Center (SETEC) in Daechi-dong, Seoul, starting with a VIP preview on March 16th to 20th. Participations of 143 major galleries representing Korea where display 4,000 different works, including paintings, sculptures, installations, and media, 2GIL29 GALLERY will be joined by 7 major artists representing 2GIL29 GALLERY. Participating Artists of Hana Kwon , MY Q, Taejin Seong ,Mookyu Lee, Jaeeun Jeon , Qwaya, and Jeehui Hong (total of 7 artists, Korean alphabetical order). Moreover, there will be unit events such as the 3rd rising artist special exhibition ‘ZOOM-IN’ program and program talks about NFT or issues in the art world. Through this Galleries Art Fair 2022, 2GIL29 GALLERY will have master craftsman Lee Mookyu in 25 years of woodcraft, to artists who have experienced multiple art fairs and exhibitions, Jaeeun Jeon ,Jeehui Hong, and Taejin Seong , artists who actively collaborate with brands supported by MZ generations, most loved artist, Qwaya, crossing the line between artist and musician, MY Q, to rising artist Kwon Hana, with the line-ups not only embrace the generations but also introducing innovative and experimental in visual art culture. At the Galleries Art fair in March where warm spring approaches, the works of 7 artists presented by 2GIL29 GALLERY, hopefully, be the place to enjoy the freedom and harmonize between generations across the boundaries of the art world after the pandemic without any restriction.
화랑미술제 2023
이길이구 갤러리는 4월12일부터 4월16일까지 화랑미술제에 참여한다. (부스 넘버 D-48) 작년 개최 40주년을 맞아 역대 최대 갤러리가 참여해 최고 판매액을 갱신하며 KIAF에 버금가는 저력을 보여줬던 화랑미술제 2023에 미술관계자들의 이목이 집중되고 있다. 작년에 이어 올해도 한국 미술시장의 부흥을 견인할 것으로 기대를 모으는 이번 미술제에 이길이구 갤러리는 한국미술계를 대표하는 주요작가 8인과 함께 한다. 참여작가는 강석영. 강준영. 나난. 마이큐. 성태진. 유현경. 임현희. 콰야 작가이다. (이상 8명, 가나다 순)
우선, 2022년 5월 이길이구 갤러리에서 연 개인전 <강석영 초대전>에서 조선백자가 가진 한국 고유의 미감과 멋을 모던한 감각의 설치 작품으로 구현하며 한국적인 현대 도예의 방향성을 제시했던 한국 도예계의 거장 강석영 작가, 특별 연장을 거쳐 2월 11일에 종료된 이길이구 갤러리 초대전 <”O”와 “X” 그리고 우리>에서 ‘가족’과 ‘집’이라는 주제로 다층적인 감정을 그만의 조형언어로 풀어내며 깊어진 작업세계를 펼쳐 호평 받은 강준영 작가, 커머셜 아트에서 탄탄한 커리어를 가진 비주얼 아티스트, 윈도우 페인터로서 예술의 진정한 의미를 나눔과 교감에서 찾고 삶 속에서 다양한 방식으로 접점을 만들어오며 대중의 열렬한 호응과 지지를 받아온 나난 작가가 그의 작품세계의 또다른 서막을 알릴 새로운 회화 연작을 소개한다.
또한, 싱어송라이터이자 기획, 연출, 프로듀서, 아트 디렉팅까지 총괄하는 만능 엔터테이너로, 2021년 이길이구 갤러리 <What are you doing the rest of your life> 전시를 계기로 본격적으로 미술이라는 새로운 창작의 길로 접어들어 단숨에 MZ세대 컬렉터를 비롯 미술계에 가장 주목받는 신진 작가로 성장해온 MYQ 마이큐 작가, 풍경과 일상적 공간을 속필로 그려내며 의식의 경계에서 즉발적인 감각에 내맡긴 채 시각적 떨림, 감정적 몰입, 상념의 극대화, 대상에 대한 극적 경험 같은 것들을 극대화시킨 작품으로 지난 22년 ASIA NOW PARIS 에서 유럽미술계를 매혹시키며 뜨거운 관심과 호응 속에 뛰어난 예술세계를 인정 받았던 유현경 작가, 여백을 걷어내는 방식으로 경계가 와해된 시공의 ‘앗상블라주(Assemblage) 같은 작업을 통해 존재에 관한 사유가 배어 있는 작품을 선보이는 임현희 작가, 익숙한 것에 대한 사색과 환기의 장을 제공하며 평범한 일상에서 예술을 발견하게 하는 현대미술의 경계를 넓히는 작업을 통해 대중이 가장 사랑하는 작가 중의 하나로 손꼽히는 콰야 작가의 신작을 선보인다.

강석영 KANG SUK YOUNG
강석영 KANG SUK YOUNG 꽈당체리녀 2022 Oil on canvas 45.5x60.5cm
1949년 서울 출생. 홍익대학교 및 동대학원에서 도예를 전공하고 파리 국립기술공예학교에서 수학한 후, 30년간 이화여자대학교 조형예술대학 학장 및 도예 연구소 소장으로 연구와 후학 양성에 힘썼다. 그는 ‘슬립 캐스팅’ 기법을 통해 ‘한국적 백색의 아름다움’을 변주해온 한국 도예계의 거장으로 작년 5월 이길이구 갤러리 초대전에서 조선백자가 가진 한국 고유의 미감과 멋을 모던한 감각의 설치 작품으로 구현하며 한국적인 현대 도예의 방향성을 제시, 그의 존재감을 공고히 했으며, 이번 2023년에는 화랑미술제, 아트부산 등을 통해 50년의 오랜 실험과 탐색으로 구축된 예술세계의 정수가 담긴 작품을 선보일 예정이다.
Suk Young Kang was born in Seoul in 1949. He majored in pottery at Hongik University and Graduate School, studied pottery at École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers. He served as a dean of Ewha Women's University's College of Formative Arts and a director of the Pottery Institute for 30 years. He is the master in the Korean pottery scene, who implemented his own production method that maximizes aesthetic intuition and through ‘Slip Casting Technique’ that varies ‘Korean white beauty’. He solidified his presence through the solo show <Sukyoung Kang> held at 2GIL29 GALLERY last year, presenting Joseon porcelain jar revealing its unique feature of Korean traditional aesthetic sense and stylish taste embodied in the installation with a modern touch. He will feature his works of art, a quintessence of his 50 years of practices for unceasing experiments and explorations with his unwavering mindset towards art, by attending Galleries Art Fair 2023, ART BUSAN 2023.
강준영 KANG JUNYOUNG
강준영(b.1979)은 서울 출생으로 홍익대학교와 동대학원에서 도예를 전공했다. 그는 자전적인 경험과 네러티브를 사회적 맥락에서 재해석해 사적 사유를 공적 영역으로 옮겨오는 넓은 스펙트럼을 가진 작가로 그의 작업에는 그래픽적인 요소와 경쾌한 색감이 강하게 녹아 들어 있는 동시에, 그 안에 담긴 메시지는 인류의 보편적인 감정을 넓게 아우르는 깊이를 가지고 있다. 특히 뜨거운 호응 속에 특별 연장을 거쳐 최근 종료된 이길이구 갤러리 초대전 <”O”와 “X” 그리고 우리>에서 ‘가족’과 ‘집’이라는 주제로 다층적인 감정을 그만의 조형언어로 풀어내며 호평 받았다. 이번 2023년 화랑미술제와 아트부산을 통해 펼칠 그의 신작 작품을 통해 풍부해진 색감과 마티에르의 향연을 느껴볼 수 있길 바란다.
Born in Seoul. Jun Young Kang (b. 1979) completed his B.F.A. in Ceramic & Glass and M.F.A. in Ceramic Art both at Hong-ik University. He displays a wide range of spectrum, broadening his personal concerns into the public sphere through his own reinterpretation of his autobiographical experiences and narratives in the societal context. And in his works, there are traces of Graffiti art, graphical features with vibrant colors as well as the messages embracing universal sentiments of all mankind in depth. And recently finalized past exhibition through special extension of the exhibition, <”O” & “X” and Us>, was well-received with his deepened and solidified world of art. The exhibition featured with his unique art pieces under the theme of ‘Family’ and ‘home’ that were melted into his own color and formative language that originates from his multi-layered emotions. We are expecting audiences can appreciate enriched colors and a feast of matière in upcoming Galleries Art Fair 2023, and ART BUSAN 2023.

나난 NANAN
나난(B. 1979)은 서울 예술 대학교에서 광고 창작을 전공 했다. 커머셜 아트 분야에서 국내.외를 섭렵하는 탄탄한 커리어를 가지고 있는 나난 작가는 예술의 진정한 의미를 나눔과 교감에 있다고 생각하며 삶 속에서 다양한 방식으로 접점을 만들어왔다. 열린 공간 속 인터렉티브 작품 <윈도우 페인팅>으로 큰 반향을 얻었고, 지난 2019 아트부산 <나난의 플라워샵>(이길이구 갤러리 부스)에서 영원한 사랑과 감사의 마음을 담은 ‘롱롱타임 플라워’를 퍼포먼스 아트 형식으로 선보여 진정한 예술은 교감 속에 있다는 것을 보여주며 대중의 열렬한 지지를 받았다. 2023년 3월 이길이구 갤러리 초대전 <TeaTime>에서는 나난이 작가로서 공고히 다져온 철학과 주제의식 위에 작가 특유의 색감과 조형성이 더해져 모던하면서도 은은한 정조를 주는 새로운 미감이 녹아든 작품으로 아티스트로서의 진면목을 다시 한번 확인시켜 줄 것이다. 이후 이어질 2023년 화랑 미술제와 아트부산에서도 선보일 그의 새로운 작품 세계에 많은 기대와 관심을 부탁드린다.
Nanan(b.1979) studied Creative Advertising at Seoul Institute of the Arts and Arts Management at Cyber University of Korea, has an outstanding career in commercial art. Nanan creates works connecting life and art, thinking that the true meaning of art lies in sharing, communicating and empathizing in various ways in life. Her interactive series of work placed in the open space, Window Painting, greatly resonated with the art scene, and “Nanan’s Flower shop” presented at ART BUSAN 2019 in the form of performance art with her ‘Long Long Time’ series, which is a paper flower work contained unabated love and gratitude, showing that a true art lies in communication and interactive moments with viewers, and it hugely won hearts and minds of public. And her upcoming solo exhibition with 2GIL29 GALLERY in March 2023 will prove that she opens a new chapter in her history as an artist and reaffirms her true charm and talent as an artist through her works of solid philosophy with her own unique color and formative beauty, which give off modernistic and subtle sentiment. Thus, we are asking for your greater expectation and interest in her new world of art will be shown at this forthcoming 2023 Galleries Art Fair and 2023 Art Busan.

마이큐(b.1981)는 1997년부터 싱어송라이터로서 데뷔, 퍼포먼스 전반의 기획, 연출부터 음악 프로듀싱까지 총괄하는 만능 엔터테이너로 음악을 통해 대중과 소통해왔다. 그는 지난 2021년 3월 이길이구 갤러리 기획전시<What are you doing the rest of your life?>를 계기로 본격적으로 미술이라는 새로운 창작의 세계로 접어들어 단기간에 평단을 매료시켰으며, 2021 KIAF 서울, 아트부산, 2022 KIAF 서울에 연이어 참여해 큰 호평을 받았다. 그의 거친 듯 자유로운 붓질과 감각적인 색상은 화면을 강렬한 생명력으로 가득 채우고, 이는 MZ 세대에 기반한 수많은 신진 컬렉터들 뿐 아니라 기존 미술 애호가들도 매혹시켰고 미술계의 주목받는 신예 작가로 부상했다. 최근 그는 <E v e r y d a y 영원한날들> 전시에서 N데믹 시대에 접어든 요즘, 매일 새로운 마음으로 나를 찾아가는 여정에 놓인 것에 감사함을 전하며 주어진 시간을 충만히 채워가는 오늘의 우리에게 찬사와 응원을 주는 작품으로 많은 이에게 따뜻한 위로를 줬다. 오는 2023년 화랑미술제와 아트부산을 통해서 또 다시 관객을 매혹할 마이큐 신작 작품에 많은 기대 바란다.
My Q(b.1981) is a multi-talented artist, managing songwriting, composing, arranging, mixing, cinematography, producing, and stage designing since his debut in 1997. And he entered a new path of art creation with the exhibition held at 2GIL29 GALLERY in 2021, <What are you doing the rest of your life>, enchanting people in the art circle within a short time, and he received great response while he consecutively participated in 2021 KIAF, ART BUSAN, and 2022 KIAF. And in the recently closed exhibition, <E v e r y d a y>, he focused on ordinary people’s story that follow everyday lives faithfully at the time of Ndemic and expresses his gratitude for people to be on the journey to discover themselves, praising us with cheerful messages gives warm comfort to them. We are expecting his work will be shown in Galleries Art Fair 2023 and ART BUSAN 2023 will enchant audiences again and asking for your continued support.

성태진 TAEJIN SEONG 외로운날들이여 이제는 안녕 2022

성태진(B.1974) 작가는 추계예술대학교에서 판화와 홍익대학교에서 석사를 전공하고 뉴욕 홍콩 싱가포르 세계무대에서 왕성히 활동하며 작업을 이어 오고 있다. 공학에 뜻을 두었지만 예술과 역사에 남다른 관심으로 결국 그림을 그리게 된다. 이 작품은 어린 시절 즐겨보던 ‘태권브이’를 모티브로 판화 기법을 사용하여 양각으로 목판에 도상을 새기고 겹겹이 색을 칠한 작업이다. 성태진이 표현한 태권 브이는 강철 로봇의 영웅적인 모습이 아니라 동시대에 존재하는 현실적인 우리네 모습을 대변한다. 갑옷을 벗고 운동복을 입은 태권브이는 친근한 모습을 하고 현대인들의 희로애락에 대한 풍자를 담고 있다. 사회적 무관심 속에 퇴색해버린 우리의 모습이자 소외되고 힘없는 서민에 대한 그의 애정 어린 시각이기도 하다. 이런 일련의 작업들은 성태진 작가만의 미술언어를 엿볼 수 있는 지점이며 과거부터 현재까지 대중적 공감 대상이 되는 모든 것을 작업의 대상으로 만든다. 밝고 경쾌한 컬러위에 해학을 얹어 보는이를 절로 미소짓게 하는 그의작품은 세대의 구분없이 폭넓은 사랑을 받아 판화 작품뿐 아니라 미디어아트와 NFT(대체 불가능 토큰) 작품까지 선보였고, 지난 22년 아트부산, KIAF에서 큰 호응을 얻으며 미술시장에서 가장 사랑하는 중견 작가로 우뚝섰다. 2023년 화랑미술제와 아트부산에서 그만이 펼칠 수 있는 독창적인 작품세계를 통해 밝고 희망찬 에너지를 전할 수 있길 기대한다.
Taejin Seong(B.1974) graduated from the printing department of Chugye University for the Arts (BA) in2005 and the printing department of Hongik University (MA) in 2006, and has since then exhibited internationally in New York, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Originally the artist was an engineer enthusiast, but his deep interest in Art and history eventually led him to the world of Art. Taejin Seong’s works are made of wood panels, where he carefully engraves his subjects to then color them with ink and acrylics. His main subject is ‘Taekwon V’, a character from the South Korean animated film named ‘Robot Taekwon V’, which in his works represents our reality in contemporary society rather than the heroic aspects of a robot. Taekwon V wearing a tracksuit instead of his armor reveals contemporary people’s joy and sorrow in a friendly way, and it also reflects them as they’re greatly affected by the indifference in today’s society. Throughout his works, Taejin Seong has created his own words in Art and has kept working on various subjects that relate to the public from the past until now.
유현경 HYEONKYEONG YOU
유현경(B.1985)은 서울대학교 미술대학 서양화과를 졸업 후 동 대학원을 수료하고, 유수의 해외 레지던시에 선정되어 활동하였고, 현재는 베를린에서 거주하며 작업 중이다. 작가는 그리는 대상과 대면하면서 발생하는 복합적이고 다양한 감정선에 집중하여 대상을 감싸고 있는 상황, 온도, 관계의 양상에서 부여되는 의미를 포착해 빠르게 화폭에 담아낸다. 이를 통해 표현되는 시각적 떨림, 감정적 몰입, 상념의 극대화, 대상에 대한 극적 경험 같은 것들은 유현경만이 지니고 있는 작가주의적 작업 세계를 형성하게 한다. 유현경 회화의 차별점들은 시간이 지날수록 진화되어 독보적인 예술세계를 공고히 하고 있고, 22년 10월 ASIA NOW PARIS에서는 유럽 현지 미술계를 매혹하며 큰 주목을 받았다. 현재 세계를 무대로 활발한 작품 활동에 몰두하며, 이길이구 갤러리와 2023 화랑 미술제, 아트부산 등 한국을 대표하는 유수의 페어 및 해외 아트페어 출전과 함께 6월 개인전을 준비하고 있으며, 더욱 깊고 다양해진 미학적 탐색과 시도들이 담긴 신작 작업에 벌써부터 많은 분들의 관심과 기대를 받고 있다.
Hyeonkyeong You(B.1985), after graduating from Seoul National University for both bachelor’s and master’s degree, was selected as a resident artist in Schloss Plüschow, Germany(2011), Rote Fabrik, Switzerland(2014), and Doosan residency in New York(2016), and is currently living in Berlin building her career. She especially focuses on the complicated emotions that occur while facing the models and quickly depicts the surroundings, temperature of the room, and outlook of the relationship with her signature brushstrokes. Through this, her fundamental and pure energy was shown in the work by maximizing visual tremor, emotional immersion, and thought, which formed an art world that only Hyeonkyeong YOU can create. The uniqueness of her artworks is evolving and has been solidified overtime. And her world of art was acclaimed by the art scene in Europe drawing a lot of attention at ASIA NOW PARIS 2022 held in Paris, France. She is currently living and working based in Berlin and dedicated to her works on the world stage, preparing for upcoming art fairs such as not only Galleries Art Fair 2023, ART BUSAN 2023, which are notable art fairs held in Korea but eminent international art fairs held out of Korea, and her solo show will be presented this June. Her works that are more extended with aesthetic explorations and attempts have been drawing a lot of attention and support by many art lovers.

임현희 IM HYUN HEE
임현희(b.1980)는 서양화를 전공하고 영국에서 유학 생활을 했지만, 작업을 할수록 자신 내면의 동양적인 측면에 주목하게 된다. 작가는 시각적 적막과 청각적 확신 사이의 괴리감에서 상상했던 이미지와 둘 사이의 아슬아슬한 경계를 작품 속에서 보여주고자 했다. 캔버스에서 보이는 물줄기의 힘찬 운동감과 물방울의 생동감은 ‘그리기’가 아닌 ‘남기기’의 결과이다. 하얀 캔버스 위에 물감을 칠하는 방식이 아닌, 여백을 가리고 그 위에 먹물을 끼얹은 후에 이미 만들어져 있던 여백을 걷어내는 방식을 반복해서 작업하였다. 개념적 사고로는 존재와 비존재의 한계를 구획할 수 없음을 보여주며, 동시에 경계 와해된 시공의 ‘앗상블라주(Assemblage)’로서 위치한다. 이성적 삶과 미적 가치를 농밀하게 만드는 무의식과의 교집합, 그 아래 둥지 튼 심리의 반영, 그리고 예술을 통해 스스로를 되짚는, 존재에 관한 사유가 배어 있다.
Hyun Hee Im(b.1980) majored in Painting and studied in England, but the longer she continued her works, the more she paid attention to her oriental side of her inner aspect. In her works, she tried to convey the imagination of a sense of alienation that was made between the visual silence and auditory conviction and the close boundary of those two. The powerful sense of movement of the water stream and the water drops on the canvas are the result of “leaving”, not “drawing”. Instead of painting on a white canvas, she covers the margins, pours ink over them, then removes the covers and repeats the process over and over. It shows that the limits of existence and non-existence cannot be separated by conceptual thinking and they are placed as an ‘Assemblage’ of the destructed boundaries. There is an intersection with the unconscious that makes rational life and aesthetic values stick together, a reflection of the psychology nestled under it, and a reason for existence that reflects itself through art.

콰야 QWAYA
콰야 작가(b.1991)는 다듬어지지 않은 자유분방한 필치로 독특한 작품 세계를 선보이며 큰 호평을 받으며, 최근 한국미술계에서 제일 주목받는 신진 작가 중 한 명으로 손꼽히고 있다. 작가는 ‘일상적이고 평범해서 가치가 없을 것 같은 매일의 일상이 담긴 보통의 날들’에 주목하여 작업을 하며, 표정을 읽을 수 없는 몽환적인 표정을 띤 인물들을 통해 보는 이의 사유를 자극하며 잃어버린 시간을 거슬러 오를 수 있는 동력이 되는 작업을 선보였다. 감각적 기호들로 가득찬 그의 작업은 보는 이의 사유를 자극하고, 이는 들뢰즈가 언급한 “시간의 새로운 구조”를 보여주는 과정이며 잃어버린 시간을 거슬러 오를 수 있는 동력이 된다. 무한한 증식과 창조를 거듭하는 새로운 세계를 들여다볼 수 있게 하는 것, 그것을 통해 새로운 지각 세계가 열리는 경험을 제공하는 것. 그것이 콰야 작가의 그림이 가지는 힘이며 현대미술에 던지는 그만의 화두이다. 여전히 그는 평범한 일상에서 예술을 발견하는 작업을 계속하고 있다. 2023년 화랑미술제에서 선보일 그의 신작은 작가로서의 그의 오랜 탐색과 고민이 담겨있어 많은 미술 애호가들의 큰 관심을 받고 있다.
Qwaya(b.1991) is considered one of the most notable emerging artists in the Korean art scene, showing a unique world of artwork with unpolished, free-spirited brushstrokes. The artist focuses on ‘ordinary and every life that seems to be worthless because it is common and repetitive’ and shows works that stimulates the viewer’s thoughts through characters with dreamy expressions on the faces and a force to trace back within the lost time. A process of “New structure of time” that Gilles Deleuze mentioned can be a driving force for us to go back in time. Letting viewers get to the world of contemplation where it endlessly proliferates and creates, opens a new perceptual world and that turns an ordinary scene of daily life into an individual field of creation. That is the power that Qwaya has, and it would be the right direction that contemporary art should be heading towards. And his new works show his continuous exploration and relentless experiments along his path over years that draw a lot of attention of many art lovers and we are expecting your interest and support to our attendance of Galleries Art Fair 2023 will feature his new pieces.
